About The Opportunity

SWCA Environmental Consultants' Sustainability & Management Consulting Team is looking for a Sustainability Intern to assist during the 2025 summer. The selected intern will support a diverse set of projects and will work with talented, multi-disciplinary teams of sustainability focused professionals. This position provides great opportunities for an Intern to enter and launch a career in sustainability, supported by leadership focused on the professional development of team members.

This is a paid, 40-hour per week internship. This is a distributed position but it is preferred that the candidate be near the Denver, CO office and will be paid $18.90 per hour if located in the CO area.

Established in 1981, SWCA has a long-standing presence in the United States, and is known for sound science and creative solutions. In 2023, SWCA expanded to include an international sustainability management team providing services globally and added teammates in Mexico, The Netherlands, Portugal and Sweden.

This position requires a demonstrated interest in sustainability, a good attitude, willingness to learn, flexibility, and good communication skills. This internship will occur during the summer 2025 (June 3rd-mid August). Candidates who can start earlier than June 2025 will be considered and those who can remain past August may provide additional value. In addition to project work, the internship program includes regularly scheduled presentations by SWCA leaders. This is a paid, full-time internship with the opportunity to work in a distributed fashion from anywhere in the United States.

What You Will Accomplish

  • Hands-on experience in building business cases for investments in sustainability solutions to improve economic return
  • Working with an experienced team on the Identification of material sustainability issues, developing strategies and problem solving
  • Experience in global benchmarking, data collection & analysis, report preparation, onsite investigation, and program support.
  • The opportunity to work with a global team facilitating problem solving in the areas of circularity, climate strategy and water security.

Experience and qualifications for success

Required

  • Currently enrolled in a college or university, pursuing a bachelor's or master’s degree in Sustainability; Economics; Environmental Engineering; or an environmental related field with coursework in environmental sciences, Biology, Ecology, or similar study focus; or a recent graduate within 12 months of May 1, 2024. Candidates with equivalent work experience will also be considered.
  • Applicants that are pursuing a master’s degree will also be considered. Ph.D. candidates are not eligible through this program.
  • Must have good communication, interpersonal skills, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work well in a team setting and collaborate with others.
  • This internship may be fully remote in nature, therefore candidates should be comfortable working in a remote setting and working independently on assigned tasks.

Preferred

  • Familiarity & experience problem solving within the current global sustainability and ESG landscape including reporting frameworks, trends, initiatives, pressures, practices & goals.
  • Bilingual candidates fluent in Spanish, Portuguese or French.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite software.
  • Technical writing experience.
