A House Director fosters and maintains a safe and productive environment for residents through oversight of multiple service providers, coordination of routine maintenance and day-to-day facility management and supervising the activities of the household employees.

This is a privately managed sorority Chapter house with 40 student residents. The House Corporation, comprised of alumnae volunteers, is responsible for the operation and financial stability of the house. The House Director reports directly to the House Corp, not an outside vendor. The House Director is expected to operate and maintain a safe, full-service sorority house at the highest standard in the country.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Operations

  • Adhere to budget and provide accounting of expenditures
  • Conduct efficient purchasing and external contracting
  • Provide regular meals and hospitable accommodations to residents
  • Oversee facility preventative maintenance and routine repairs
  • Perform nightly security checks
  • Ensure safety of residents and staff; adhere to House Corp policies
  • Plan/host special events with House Corp and Chapter
  • Receive/tour guests from time to time

Staff management

  • Supervise daily tasks of 5 staff members
  • Provide feedback and make compensation recommendations
  • Hire new staff members when necessary

Communication with constituents

  • Provide financial/operational reports to House Corp and their CPA
  • Proactively seek advice/approval of House Corp re: resident, staff, facility issues
  • Communicate regularly with residents (utilizing student House Manager), Chapter advisors, and sometimes residents’ parents
  • Maintain productive vendor relationships
  • Interact with University personnel as necessary
  • Respond to emails and text messages in a timely manner

Troubleshooting

  • Promptly address resident issues as they arise
  • Handle emergencies effectively
  • Proactively recommend facility and operational improvements

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Valid driver's license
  • Non-smoker
  • No pets
  • At least two professional references
  • College or advanced degree preferred
  • Property management experience
  • Onsite, overnight, 7 nights per week during school term except when prior arrangements have been made and coverage secured
  • Ability to lift 25 lbs easily
  • Ability to climb ladder and several flights of stairs multiple times per day
  • Excellent organization and communication skills
  • Proven budgeting and expense management skills
  • Ability to work independently and maintain confidentiality
  • Positive, solution-focused attitude
  • Strong interpersonal skills, especially the ability to work with college-age women. Must have patience, flexibility and a sense of humor
  • Ability to interact professionally and diplomatically with advisors, campus administrators, parents, alumnae, and vendors
  • Enjoys creating and maintaining a beautiful and welcoming Chapter house that is “home” for all sorority members

Time off when house is closed is approximately 11-12 weeks per year: Fall Break (long weekend), Thanksgiving (long weekend), Winter Break (3-4 weeks), Spring Break (1 week), summer (mid-June to August 1)
