Job Description

Carney, Sandoe & Associates, an education recruitment firm, is currently seeking a Primary School Spanish Teacher for the 2025-2026 academic year at a private and independent school in Washington DC.

Candidates must be native Spanish speakers and have Spanish as a mother tongue.

Spanish Teacher Responsibilities:

  • Work with students who are at various levels of learning Spanish language including oral, written, and listening skills.
  • Willingness to teach Spanish and work with students ranging from grades 1-5.
  • Developing lesson plans and curricula based on the needs of individual students.
  • Recognize students who are in need of additional support based on teacher recommendations, classroom observation, and assessment results.
  • Instruct students individually and in small groups to further modify curriculum to match individual learning needs of students.
  • Utilize technology with purpose in the classroom to enhance student learning.
  • Able to use alternative teaching methods when needed such as online courses and providing student support for alternative assignments and assessments.
  • Collaborate with other foreign language educators to develop and coordinate curriculum.
  • Conducting research on teaching methods, materials, and language games that can be used in class.
  • Organizing feedback sessions with students and their parents if applicable.
  • Administer beginning and end of year assessments for students in grades 1-5.
  • Providing suggestions for further learning and scheduling intervention sessions with struggling students.
  • Teaching students about Spanish culture, which may include festivals, traditional food, and dress, and social conventions.

Spanish Teacher Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Spanish language, Education, or an equivalent may be required.
  • Native fluency in both written and spoken Spanish.
  • 3-5 years of previous teaching experience preferred.
  • Experience with International Baccalaureate (IB)/Primary Years Programme (PYP) preferred.
  • Previous experience working at an International School a plus.
  • No teaching license or credential is required.
  • Strong interpersonal as well as written and verbal communication skills.
  • A desire to be involved in extracurricular activities as well as the broader school community.
  • Well-organized and able to handle multiple responsibilities.
