Location: Somerville, Massachusetts (with some remote work and occasional travel)

Time: About 40 hours/week (occasional night and weekend work)

Salary: $62,400–$68,600/year, depending on experience

Job description

Would you enjoy having a job that feels like a dinner party with your most creative friends? Well, you just might be the next CultureHouse Community Engagement Lead/Manager! The Community Engagement Lead/Manager will conduct community engagement activities across CultureHouse programs, manage projects including pop-up community spaces, and coordinate volunteers across the organization.


Responsibilities include:

Community engagement

  • Provide community engagement tools, training, and strategy across the organization and projects
  • Create engagement plans
  • Run community engagement events
  • Build and maintain relationships with nonprofit, municipal, business, and individual partners
  • Develop community organizing and engagement strategies that empower members of systemically marginalized communities

Data collection and analysis

  • Create data collection plans for projects to assess community impact
  • Use GIS and other digital tools to collect data
  • Use tools from Gehl and other leading groups in community engagement to quantify engagement with projects
  • Collect data on-site and train others to do so
  • Develop new forms of observational and interactive data collection

Volunteer management

  • Manage the existing CultureHouse volunteer network
  • Recruit new volunteers and manage communication
  • Run regular volunteer training and engagement events

Project management

  • Seek out new projects with partners
  • Write project proposals and negotiate with partners
  • Seek out project funding (grant writing and sponsorship solicitation)
  • Manage new projects for CultureHouse, including the Community Pop-Up program
  • Develop and work within schedules and budgets for projects
  • Hire and manage staff and volunteers for projects
  • Supervise interns when applicable
  • Ensure projects are accessible across language, race, ability, income, and other axes of identity
  • Manage the KiOSK Manager and work with other KiOSK and core team staff to fundraise for, operate, and produce reporting on the Cambridge KiOSK project.

Writing

  • Analyze quantitative and qualitative data to produce project impact reports
  • Take project findings and write reports using accessible language that highlight impacts
  • Research and write grant proposals
  • Write blog posts and publications about CultureHouse’s work
  • Create partnerships with relevant advocacy groups by providing them with useful data collected by CultureHouse

About you

Highly preferred qualifications:

  • Legally authorized to work in the US
  • Two or more years of work or post-graduate experience in community engagement, urban design, or a related field
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and send detailed project proposals
  • Proven experience in developing and writing comprehensive project reports
  • Experience facilitating meetings with partners and community groups
  • Expertise in data collection and analysis
  • Cultural humility and passion for grassroots organizing
  • Ability to work with BIPOC, queer, and unhoused communities
  • Commitment to social justice
  • Strong background in managing people and teams effectively
  • Exceptional organizational skills, and the ability to create structures for others to follow
  • Proficiency in conflict management and resolution techniques
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Public speaking and presentation skills
  • Comfortable taking initiative and working through problems/unknowns
  • A strong work ethic, attention to detail, and a collaborative working style


Other preferred experience and qualifications:

  • Full professional proficiency in Spanish, Portuguese, and/or Haitian Creole
  • Graduate degree or certificate in community engagement, community design, or related field
  • Experience working with governments 
  • Knowledge of nonprofit business or program development
  • Experience in nonprofit fundraising
