Work Shield is seeking a full-time Senior Back End Engineer to join our development team in Dallas, Texas. As the only end-to-end solution for managing, investigating, and resolving workplace misconduct, Work Shield partners with organizations to create safer, more positive work environments. This in-office position will lead the design, development, and optimization of our user-facing web application. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical foundation with 5+ years of experience. In this role, you will focus on architecting, developing, and scaling intuitive, responsive, and accessible user interfaces. You’ll leverage your expertise to craft and implement front-end architecture patterns, improve performance, and implement best practices to ensure a seamless and engaging user experience.

What You’ll Do:

  • Architect, develop, and maintain high-performance, scalable backend services and APIs.
  • Optimize and refactor existing codebases for efficiency, scalability, and maintainability.
  • Ensure system reliability and security by implementing best practices in authentication, authorization, and data protection.
  • Design and manage databases, ensuring high availability, performance tuning, and data integrity.
  • Collaborate with frontend engineers, product managers, and other stakeholders to deliver end-to-end solutions.
  • Lead technical decision-making by evaluating new technologies, frameworks, and architectures.
  • Mentor junior and mid-level engineers, providing guidance and fostering a culture of learning and technical excellence.
  • Contribute to technical documentation and coding standards to improve knowledge sharing and maintainability.

What We’re Looking For:

Candidates should have 5+ years of experience with most of the skills and tools below:

  • Backend Development using Rust, Node.js, and Python (FastAPI) to build high-performance, scalable services.
  • AI & LLM Integration with ChatGPT, Llama Index, RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation), and prompt engineering, including fine-tuning and model training for intelligent backend solutions.
  • Database Expertise in MySQL and MongoDB, including schema design, indexing, and query optimization.
  • API Development with RESTful and GraphQL standards, ensuring efficient data handling and scalability.
  • Authentication & Authorization with JWT and industry best practices for securing user data and APIs.
  • Caching & Performance Optimization using Redis and other strategies to enhance system responsiveness.
  • Real-time Communication via WebSockets to support live updates and interactive user experiences.
  • Security Best Practices for APIs, including encryption, rate limiting, and threat mitigation.
  • Git & Version Control following best practices for collaborative development and code management.

Bonus Qualifications:

  • Understanding of distributed systems, microservice architectures, or Apollo Federation.
  • Experience with vector databases such as Chroma or Pinecone.
  • Experience with implementing automated testing strategies in Rust, Node, or Python.

Educational Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field is preferred.

Compensation and Benefits:

The salary range for this role is up to $105,000, based on relevant experience and qualifications. This role is also eligible for a discretionary bonus based on individual and organizational performance and goal attainment.
