Job Summary:
This role will be responsible for the delivery of all facility Safety, Safety Training & Securit y activities in our distribution center. This individual will coordinate our safety and security efforts, comply with company safety standards, follow company guidelines for inspecting the workplace and identifying safety hazards, carry out safety training, and effectively implement safety directives to help ensure all safety programs, practices and procedures are implemented. Helps ensure our safety-first culture by coordinating safety initiatives among many departments, including partners in HR, operations, and plays a key role in safety training, compliance and physical/site security.

Primary Responsibilities:
Safety Training and Preparedness
- Work with DC Operations management to identify training needs; research training and schedule training with all of operations. Adhere to the safety training plans, execute new hire safety orientation and support in role specific safety evaluations and trainings such as proper use of PPE in designated areas of the site.
- Coordinate certifications and recertifications for all staff on site.
- Ensures the availability, readiness and proper use of required accident prevention procedures, safety equipment, protective clothing and devices, and first aid supplies.
- Work with management to improve safety training, safety awareness and safety training programs.
- Have a positive influence on the safety culture by administering, engaging and supporting trainings for employees across the board.
- Conduct safety drills as required to include but not limited to fire evacuation, tornado and active shooter.
- Assists in developing, plans, coordinates and delivers effective Safety and training to all employees, temporary workers, contractors, and visitors to promote a strong Safety culture.
- Ensure training and coaching are taking place to drive a safety-perfect culture and to ensure safety standards and awareness are well understood throughout the DC organization.
- Organizes the training in skilled operations (equipment operation, lockout/Tagout).
Compliance & Incident Response Coordination
- Under the direction of leadership, inspects the workplace and identifies potential workplace hazards, and audits work areas for compliance with company standards and occupations safety and health regulations. Presents findings and risk areas to management.
- Respond to on-site emergencies and incidents.
- Work with management to identify safety initiatives and provide research, as needed.
- Conduct incident investigations and Safety Alerts for Near Misses, First Aids and Recordable Incidents.
- Ensure appropriate risk assessments are conducted and follow ups implemented to minimize or eliminate accidents, asset losses that might cause harm to one of the company’s employees, contractors, visitors.
- Work collaboratively with HR by providing necessary administrative data to ensure timely reporting and related activities through the Workers Compensation and OSHA process. Provide Safety & Securit y input for the facility for new projects and change management activities.
- With the guidance of DC and Facilities management, assist with carrying out strategic plans to improve safety performance.
- Be an advocate of continuous improvement for our safety culture through positive influence and collaborative partnership within DC operations.
- Ensures the Safety, Training & Securit y needs of the entire DC and employees are taken care of in a timely manner.
- Engage leadership and coordinate safety response team committees to help drive long-term strategic actions to achieve incident reduction.
- Assists with developing Job Safety Analysis (JSA) for each role within assigned site.
- Conduct safety related audits and ensure site is complying with company policies.
Security
- Coordinate safety and security risk management activities in conjunction with the Safety Response Team Committee, and department teams.
- Monitor all site security activities, including the site’s contracted security force.
- Monitor’s security systems.
Other duties as assigned/Secondary Responsibilities/Miscellaneous
- Assisting in ergonomic studies/improvements.
- Assist with the creation of risk assessments/PPE requirements
- Reviews SOPs and observes site roles being performed to.
- Required Qualifications
Education, Licensing, Certification, and Experience
- High school diploma required
- Undergraduate Degree in Occupational Health & Safety, or related field preferred; or commensurate level of work-related experience
- Possesses experience with OSHA and other job safety requirements.
- 1-3 years’ experience in Safety or Environmental Health and Safety and security within a Distribution Center or manufacturing environment or similar industry.
- Safety audit experience

- Ability to work without direct supervision and be a self-starter.
- Demonstrated ability to make sound judgements, conduct thorough investigations, show strong organizational skills, and the ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgement in evaluation the satisfactory or unsatisfactory performance of the provided service.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, (Data bases) and Security Systems

- Possess an understanding of local/state/federal regulations including OSHA, IDPH, CDC and EPA
Preferred Qualifications
Education, Licensing, Certification, and Experience
Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification is a plus
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Bi-lingual: English & Spanish
Solid understanding of quality systems (ISO 9001), OSHA, EPA/IDPH regulation
Experience in Lean manufacturing (including Kaizen, 5S, Gemba) is preferred
