Job Description

With the next generation of aircraft such as the B777-9 and A350F on the horizon, and a new era of market leading products arriving soon, we are looking for our next Maintenance Manager; a role which will bring many opportunities. We are looking for a candidate who is a successful and experienced engineer who wants to take that next step in their career to grow into a role that goes beyond aircraft maintenance and certification, and ultimately into management. This role will be based in the Los Angeles.

The role:

  • First and foremost, the role involves overseeing the day-to-day engineering operation within Western America. The candidate will be expected to use all their experience and knowledge to manage Technical Handling Agents (THA) and support the daily operation to ensure it is performed in accordance with the Singapore Airworthiness Requirements. This will include aircraft certification when required. An appropriate Aircraft Engineering B1 License, with relevant type ratings are essential.
  • The candidate must also be able to think quickly under pressure. They will formulate plans and communicate them to the Engineering Head office, local station staff and handling agents in a clear and calm manner. This will require a high level of communication skill. The candidate must also be able to work closely and well with the other stakeholders like SIA airport staff, THA, GHA, etc.
  • SIA has flights operating throughout the day and the Engineering Department within Singapore will be closely monitoring all aspects of aircraft performance. This role requires a degree of flexibility and being on call 24/7 will be a requirement.
  • There will be a requirement to travel within the US to assist with any operational challenges that may arise, sometimes at a moment’s notice. For this, the candidate must be willing to travel within the US and also outside US to attend courses.

The opportunities:

The successful candidate will learn LAX, SFO, SEA and HNL operation, meet the key stakeholders and gain a basic understanding of the key components that make up a successful Line Maintenance Operation:

  • Learn the procedures and policies of Singapore Airlines, and how to apply them to make sure everything runs smoothly. This will include generating reports, carrying out
  1. investigations and writing local procedures.
  • Manage and monitor the Technical Handling Agent to ensure that they operate safely on schedule and meet SIA’s performance standards.
  • Gain an understanding of, and be involved in, the selection of handling agents and how they are contracted and monitored. This includes supporting the RFP process, understanding IATP contracts and assisting with audits to ensure compliance.
  • Learn and understand Finances and invoicing. They will be able to plan and prepare annual operating budget and once approved, stay within budget. They will learn the correct process to verify and approve station invoices.
  • Learn about spares and inventory management, and the differences between owned spares, IATP pool spares and Power by the hours spares (PBTH) including spares logistics and customs clearances

After the probationary period has been successfully completed, the opportunities will continue to grow:

  • An induction into the main base operation in Singapore; an opportunity to learn about the different engineering departments as well as the OCC operation.Not only does this give the candidate a grounding in the SIA engineering environment, it will give them a chance to meet all the departments that they will liaising with from US as they manage the engineering operation from afar.
  • An expansion of their portfolio to include some US stations to oversee, manage and support as required. This will bring some unique experience as each station has their own procedures and capabilities.
  • The opportunity to gain the B777-9 type rating. As aircraft deliveries start and the operation expands, the candidate will have to become a leader and expert in the type. The ability to maintain and certify is a given; but they will have to be able assist in the preparation of stations within US for this new aircraft type as the network grows.
  • The opportunity to gain the A350F type rating. The Cargo division will be taking this aircraft type to look for opportunities within the market to gain a competitive advantage. The candidate will have to be ready and support them as they choose key destinations to maximise profitability.
  • The opportunity to apply for management courses at the Singapore Airlines Training Centre in Singapore and online through the company learning portal.

Qualifications:

  • A FAA A&P License, EASA PART-66 B1 Unrestricted license or other Foreign AML that is able to be converted into a CAAS SAR-66 License
  • 5 years of experience working in a line maintenance environment.
  • B777 or A350 (Trent XWB) B1 type rating is a requirement, or any one of these aircraft types with any of the SIA operated types listed below:
  • A380 (RR Trent 900) B1, B747-400F (PW4000)
  • The right to work within the US.
