JUNIOR CONSTRUCTION INSPECTOR

Janssen & Spaans Engineering (JSE) is looking for a Junior Construction Inspector to join our team! This role provides engineering excellence by inspecting construction of bridges, roadways and other construction work to ensure that procedures and materials comply with plans and specifications. It is preferred that the candidate has a background in engineering, construction, construction management or related field with concentration in transportation.

Job Description:

  • 0-5 years of relevant work experience required
  • INDOT construction inspection experience preferred
  • Ensure contractors compliance with Contract Documents
  • Create and maintain accurate detailed project records to ensure that all projects are executed in accordance with contract, design, budget, and schedule
  • Report to the senior inspector on the status of the project, including any issues that occurred
  • Construction oversight to monitor contractor’s progress, workmanship and general conformance with the contract documents
  • Reviews design, safety, quality plans and all construction phase submittals associated with the Project
  • Develop daily, weekly, monthly reports to the Senior Inspector on the status of the project, including any issues that occurred
  • Work with Senior Inspector to review requests for change from the field
  • Conform to Safety Site Specific Work Plan (SSSWP) to ensure safety of the job
  • Communicate and implement safety rules, policies, and procedures in support of the corporation’s safety vision and goals
  • Travel to project site required
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Other duties as required

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree engineering, technology, construction management or related field
  • Familiarity with INDOT Specification and Contract means/methods preferred
  • Demonstrated construction experience on bridges, highways, and/or railroad environments
  • Possess strategic and tactical skills required for planning and executing complex project work
  • Must have the ability to coordinate efforts with other technical disciplines and have knowledge of reading contract plans and reviewing construction schedules
  • Effective motivation, and team performance skills required
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated experience in PC-based word processing and spreadsheet (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint) sufficient to prepare daily reports
  • Efficient analysis and critical thinking skills
  • Strong attention to detail, listening and time management skills
