California’s State Compensation Insurance Fund is seeking a self-starter interested in contributing to our high-performance Data Management teams. Under general supervision, the SQL DBA will perform a full range of Database Administration functions for all Microsoft SQL Servers in support of the company’s application systems.  

Role & Responsibilities:

SQL Server DBA is responsible for performing proactive database maintenance tasks, ensuring database systems are optimized for maximum performance and implementing HA solution in meeting the systems up-time SLA. This position will also work collaboratively with software architects and application developers to provide high standard DB services.   

Task performed by the MS SQL Server DBA includes but are not limited to the following:
  • On-going maintenance of Microsoft SQL Server databases.  Daily operational tasks like:
    • Perform Database cloning and database recovery as needed.
    • Proactively monitoring the health of all SQL Server Services
    • Monitoring SQL Server audit and error logs
    • Performance monitoring and tuning as needed.
    • Setup of database systems for new software installations 
    • Administer backup, clustering, mirroring, replication and failover as needed. 
  • Maintain and monitor High-Availability of SQL Server Database between production clusters and disaster recovery (DR) environments.
  • Develop and implement proactive monitoring for a multi-server Microsoft SQL Server environment.
  • Provide advice/recommendations on SQL Server architecture, design, and implementation.
  • Provide documentation for knowledge transfer to other SQL Server Support Team members and communicate both to non-technical users and to technical personnel
  • Evaluate and recommend emerging database technologies for adoption.   
  • Production support of Microsoft SQL Server database issues, this may include after hours or weekend or both on-call support.

New to state candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of the alternate salary range when applicable. Placement to alternate salary range may be based on education or experience identified in your state application.
