Job Description

Position Summary:

We are seeking a skilled Electrical Engineer or Maintenance Technician with expertise in electrical control systems, troubleshooting, and machine maintenance. The ideal candidate will have experience with Allen Bradley PLCs, motor controls, and industrial electrical systems, with the ability to troubleshoot and maintain machines in our production environment. This role offers the opportunity to be trained to handle specialized equipment and systems, with the possibility of advancing into higher roles within the company.

Key Responsibilities:

Electrical Maintenance & Troubleshooting:

  • Lead electrical maintenance activities, ensuring maximum uptime of machinery.
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical systems, controls, and components, including PLCs, HMIs, and electrical circuits.
  • Analyze and interpret electrical schematics and wiring diagrams to perform repairs.
  • Diagnose and resolve issues with DC/AC motor control systems (starters, overloads, VFDs, DC drives, encoders, tachometers).
  • Work with servo systems, troubleshoot and repair electrical control systems (analog, safety, and digital).

Programming & Control Systems:

  • Modify and program ladder logic for Allen Bradley PLCs (5/500/5000 series).
  • Change and commission control buttons and switches in HMIs as needed.
  • Maintain and update control system documentation and software backups.

Mechanical & Pneumatic Systems:

  • Basic knowledge of mechanical systems such as pressure, torque, force, flow, gearboxes, clutches, and gear ratios.
  • Intermediate understanding of pneumatic and hydraulic systems (valves, pumps, cylinders, heat exchangers).

Panel Building & Electrical Wiring:

  • Build, troubleshoot, and repair electrical panels.
  • Work with a variety of electrical components (e.g., sensors, switches, relays) and wiring systems.

General Maintenance:

  • Perform maintenance and repair of plant equipment including hydraulic pumps, motors, and other machinery.
  • Experience with MIG/stick welding, cutting torches, and fabrication of parts.
  • Assist in the rebuilding and installation of used and new equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and company policies.

Additional Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with cold drawn steel mill equipment (Schumag Cold Draw lines, Wean & Samuel Platt Drawbench, etc.) is a plus.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and interpret electrical prints and navigate PLC programs (no programming required).

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree or certification in Electrical Engineering, Industrial Electrical, Electromechanical, Mechatronics, Automation, or a related field.

Experience:

  • At least 1 year of experience working in a manufacturing or production plant.
  • Experience with Allen Bradley PLCs, Siemens controls, electrical control systems, and motor control.
  • Familiarity with panel building, wiring systems, and troubleshooting electrical components.
  • Experience with hydraulic and pneumatic systems a plus.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work with hand tools and power tools (e.g., drill press, lathe, Bridgeport milling machine).
  • Proficient in interpreting electrical schematics and hydraulic/pneumatic assembly drawings.
  • Ability to work safely and ensure workplace safety standards are met.
  • Willingness to work in varying shifts (1st, 2nd, or 3rd shift) and overtime if required.

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:

  • Comfortable performing hands-on electrical and mechanical work.
  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical tasks (bending, climbing, stretching).
  • Exposure to heat, cold, dust, noise, humidity, and fumes in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to work overtime, weekends, or other shifts to meet business needs.
