Position Overview: Child Life Specialist

Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of children and families facing medical challenges? Join our team as a Child Life Specialist, where you'll play a vital role in enhancing the healthcare experience by addressing the psychosocial and developmental needs of patients. This position requires a dynamic professional with a suite of therapeutic skills to deliver personalized interventions that foster resilience and positive coping.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive, age-appropriate assessments of patients and their families to understand their developmental, emotional, social, and environmental contexts.
  • Provide a diverse range of developmental and psychosocial interventions to help families cope with the stress of illness, hospitalization, and loss.
  • Create a safe and therapeutic environment that supports positive coping and emotional well-being during medical encounters.
  • Facilitate engaging group activities that promote socialization and positive interactions among patients and families.
  • Collaborate with an interdisciplinary healthcare team, integrating goals into treatment plans and ensuring seamless communication and documentation.
  • Advocate for the psychosocial needs of pediatric patients through education and in-service training for staff and community members.
  • Mentor and train child life interns, students, and volunteers, ensuring high standards of care and interaction with patients and families.
  • Prioritize and organize workload effectively to ensure timely interventions for patients at the highest psychosocial risk.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Child Life, Child Development, or a closely related field; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Certification as a Child Life Specialist required within one year of hire.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of child development and the ability to tailor interventions to meet individual needs.
  • Current AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Salary Range: Minimum 22.68/hour - Maximum 36.29/hour. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility. In cases where the range is displayed as a $0 amount, salary discussions will occur during candidate screening calls, before any subsequent compensation discussion is held between the candidate and any hiring authority.
