Job Description

Chief of Staff

In 2025, the time for organizing our communities is more important than it has ever been. Our family of organizations Arizona Coalition for Change 501(c)(3) and Our Voice Our Vote Arizona 501(c)(4) is seeking an experienced Chief of Staff who will serve as a key strategic partner to the Executive Director, helping to drive organizational effectiveness and support the overall mission of the organization. This role involves a blend of strategic planning, project management, and operational oversight, ensuring that the organization runs smoothly and efficiently. The Chief of Staff will also play a pivotal role in stakeholder engagement, communications, and the implementation of initiatives. The Chief of Staff will serve on and co-lead the senior leadership team while directly supervising a team of operations staff and part-time contractors. Role Responsibilities:

Strategic Partnership and Leadership:

  • Collaborate closely with the Executive Director to shape and implement the organization’s strategic vision.
  • Co-led the senior leadership team meetings, contributing insights and facilitating discussions that drive organizational success.
  • Co-lead the development and execution of strategic priorities, ensuring alignment across departments.

Organizational Effectiveness and Team Collaboration:

  • Assess organizational processes and workflows, recommending and implementing improvements to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Establish performance metrics to monitor the organization’s progress toward strategic goals, providing regular updates to the Executive Director and leadership team.
  • Coordinate cross-functional teams and manage resources effectively to support project goals, fostering collaboration and communication.
  • Develop and implement internal communication strategies that promote transparency and engagement across the organization.
  • Design and facilitate initiatives that foster a positive organizational culture, one that values collaboration, innovation, and a commitment to the mission.

Team Leadership and Development:

  • Directly supervise operations staff and part-time contractors, providing guidance, mentorship, and performance management.
  • Invest in the professional growth and development of team members, creating opportunities for skill enhancement and leadership training.
  • Oversee the team performance management process, by co-developing the annual process (including check-ins like 2x2s and skip-level meetings) with the Executive Director, and facilitating communications and execution of the process amongst the leadership team

Stakeholder and Donor Engagement:

  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including board members, donors, partners, and community members.
  • Act as a representative of the Executive Director in stakeholder meetings and events, ensuring a consistent and engaging organizational presence.
  • Assist with the preparation of stakeholder reports, budgets, and grant proposals, ensuring accuracy and alignment with organizational goals.

Ideal Skills and Experiences:

  • A minimum of 5-7 years working in non-profit management, operations, or related fields.
  • Experience supervising staff in the non-profit setting, with a strong track record of building teams and developing staff leadership.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge of fundraising, grant writing, and community engagement strategies is a plus.
  • Commitment and passion for racial, gender, and economic justice and their intersections, both inside and outside organizations.
  • Capacity and willingness to work long, flexible hours
