ABOUT JOHN JAY COLLEGE

John Jay College of Criminal Justice, an internationally recognized leader in educating for justice, is a senior college of the City University of New York (CUNY) led by President Karol V. Mason. POSITION OVERVIEW

• Monitoring recruitment, appointment, and retention processes for all faculty and staff positions in accordance with CUNY policies as well as federal, state, and local laws pertaining to equal employment opportunity and affirmative action;
• Maintaining records and overseeing the preparation of internal and external reports on data, compliance, audit responses, etc. regarding the College's equal employment opportunity and affirmative action efforts, including the Annual Affirmative Action Plan;
• As 504/ADA Coordinator, review appeals of reasonable accommodation request decisions;
• Collaborating with the Office of Legal Counsel and Human Resources to ensure the College's EEO / OFCCP compliance;
• Participating in new initiatives to improve services;
• Conducting fact-finding investigations, including as Title IX coordinator, that ensure due process for all parties in response to complaints of discrimination, harassment, sex-based misconduct, retaliation, conflicts of interest and related matters, and reporting findings in accordance with applicable CUNY policies;
• Serving as a resource to the College community in interpreting laws, CUNY and EEO policies and regulations;
• Reviewing and analyzing climate survey and other data to assess current procedures, diversity outreach programs and training;
• Developing and implementing changes or new initiatives and procedures, as appropriate;
• Counseling members of the John Jay community (staff, faculty, and students) on equal opportunity and affirmative action issues to foster integration of best practices for promoting access to educational opportunities and workplace diversity and inclusion;
• Developing education materials, resource guides and communications related to Title IX, Title VI, Title VII and related policies and procedures;
• Developing and presenting ongoing training and educational programs about discrimination, harassment, sex-based misconduct, equal opportunity, diversity, and related topics;
• Conducting outreach and training to raise awareness of resources, legal requirements and best practices for preventing discrimination and harassment and promoting an inclusive working and learning environment in coordination with other college departments;
• Maintaining current knowledge of laws, regulations, and policies as well as emerging best practices for promoting diversity and inclusion and preventing discrimination and harassment;
• Managing the operations of the Office of Compliance and Diversity and hiring, training, and supervising staff;
• Serving as liaison between the College, CUNY, enforcement agencies and interest groups, as appropriate;
• Participating in policy development and oversight of John Jay's approach to the prevention of and response to discriminatory behaviors;
• Serving as Co-Chair of the Committee on Diversity & Inclusion and on other CUNY and campus committees as needed; and,
• Performing other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree and eight years' relevant experience required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• JD from an accredited law school.
• Knowledge of discrimination, harassment and equal opportunity laws;
• Demonstrable familiarity with laws, regulations, and guidelines, including Title VI, Title VII, Title IX, Section 504, and the Americans with Disabilities Act preferred.
• Experience applying discrimination laws and conducting investigations of legal or policy violations, (e.g., employee or student misconduct, including investigations of sex-based misconduct).
• Understanding and sensitivity to the effects of trauma caused by sexual violence and harassment.
• Experience presenting educational materials to adult learners and developing and presenting educational programs on discrimination, harassment, equal opportunity or related topics.
• Demonstrated ongoing commitment to, or interest in, working collaboratively with students and with and across diverse communities.
• Ability to build trust and work collaboratively with students, faculty, staff, administrators, and community partners; and to balance the multiple, varying interests of those diverse stakeholders.
• Experience as a manager and ability and desire to work proactively, collaboratively and creatively as part of a high-level administrative team.
• Exceptional verbal, written, and interpersonal communications skills, including skill in preparing and presenting detailed reports and assessments to senior executives and training a variety of stakeholders.
• Effective project management, organizational, and analytical skills.
• Ability to exercise sound judgment and to manage sensitive information with discretion.
• Strong attention to detail, effective analytical skills, and proven ability to work independently and to meet deadlines.
• Prior experience working in a university setting, with an understanding of the academic recruitment and tenure.
• Experience working on compliance with Title IX, Title VI and Title VII regulatory requirements in higher education environment highly valuable.

CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW

Oversees programs, activities, and initiatives designed to foster a climate that respects pluralism and diversity.

• Develops effective strategies to promote diversity in faculty and staff hiring and actively participates in building strong networks and recruitment sources
• Serves as a key recruiting team member, coordinating recruitment plans, advertising, and selection processes
• Implements the College's Affirmative Action and Equal Opportunity policies and ensures compliance with relevant city, state, and federal statutes such as Title VII, Title IX, Section 504, and the Americans with Disabilities Act, responding to and conducting investigations of non-compliance complaints
• Collects and analyzes data for College and University reports
• Develops and presents training programs and disseminates information related to Diversity, EEO, and other compliance at the College
• Coordinates with University offices to assure consistency of University-wide policies
• Maintains current knowledge and materials related to laws, rules, regulations, and best practices for advancing EEO/Diversity
• Performs related duties as assigned.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

$129,310 - $141,858

Salary commensurate with education and experience.
